Savannah Parker Ready to Defend TAPPS XC Crown

One year can change everything.

As a freshman, Savannah Parker of San Antonio Christian School at Castle Hills finished 22nd at the TAPPS 4A Cross Country State Championships. Twelve months later, she crossed the finish line as a state champion after one of the closest finishes in recent TAPPS history.

Parker edged Pantego Christian's Elizabeth "Libby" Hamblin by one-tenth of a second, winning in 12:58.26 to Hamblin's 12:58.36. The margin was so slim that Parker didn't immediately realize she had won. It wasn't until several moments later - and after seeing her father sprinting toward her in celebration - that the significance of the finish truly set in.
