Tilden
McMullen County won a second straight UIL 1A Girls Cross Country title last
year with a strong score of 50 points. Their top six runners all finished among
the first 20 scoring runners. Clyde Eula comfortably finished in second place
with 91 points and Garden City took third place behind a great 1-5 split of 37
seconds. TMC and Clyde Eula will likely be battling it out once again for the State
title at the end of the season. Texline and Guthrie are two teams that could
upset the apple cart since each return full rosters from last year.
Top Teams
Clyde Eula - There is little
doubt that they can compete for a State medalist spot with five returners and
an outstanding 1-2 punch with junior Camryn Gray and senior Raelee Rister.
Adding one more quality runner can put them over the top.
Guthrie - If they scored out
to seven runners, then Guthrie would be the top team returning. They have a
strong first two runners but could use a little extra push from a couple of
their next five to really compete.
Roby - They have a solid top-3
and return six runners from their seventh-place team from last year. The challenge
will be finding two more scoring runners that can really compete.
Texline - They appear to be
primed for a big season. Like Guthrie, they return all seven runners from last
year's fourth place team. Sophomore Samantha Young should be competing for a
podium spot at the State meet.
Tilden McMullen County - The
two-time defending champs graduated State champion London Yanity and two others
from their lineup. Despite only returning four from last year's State meet they
should among the top teams thanks to Ella David and Caroline Trudeau.
Best of the Rest
Cumby Miller Grove - Led by sophomore
Addison May, they return six runners from last year.
Garden City - Finished third
last year but lost two quality runners to graduation.
Jayton - Return four from
last season sixth place finish and should be competing for a similar spot this
year.
Jonesboro - Could use one
more quality runner to push for a podium spot.
Nazareth - This could be the
most improved of all the State qualifying teams from last year. It would not be
a shock if they ended on the podium.
