Goldsmith Paces ACU At Baylor

WACO, Texas – The Abilene Christian men's and women's cross country teams placed third and sixth, respectively, at the season opening Bear Twilight Invitational hosted Thursday night at Baylor University.
 
Junior Alyse Goldsmith was the top Wildcat runner, finishing the women's 4K course with an 11th-place time of 14:53.5, while teammate Chloe Susset cracked the top-20 with her 18th-place mark of 15:07.9.
 
The women's field was comprised of 70 runners representing seven schools, including Texas A&M, Texas State, Incarnate Word, and the host Bears, who won the team title with 17 points. Texas State was a distant second with 75 points and the Aggies finished third with 82 points.
 
The ACU men placed in the upper half of the six-team field after getting three runners in the top 25 and four in the top 30. Junior Will Pike was the fastest Wildcat with his 6K time of 19:46.1.
 
Texas A&M won the men's team championship with 25 points. Baylor was second with 40 points and the Wildcats claimed third with 98 points, beating out teams from Dallas Baptist, Incarnate Word and Texas-Tyler.
 
ACU returns to action Saturday, Sept. 17 for the Naimadu Classic, its lone home meet of the 2011 season. More details are available on the Wildcats cross country page at ACUSports.com.
