Showdown In The Desert - AZ Sprints Showcase

Tonight are the finals at the Arizona Sprints Showcase sponsored by the Phoenix Regional Sports Commission.  Two State Champions will face off in the 100 and 200 meter dash tonight at 6:30 PM. 

 

Khalfani Muhammad from Notre Dame in Sherman Oaks, California finished the prelims with the fastest times in both the 100 (10.73) and 200 (21.54) dash.  Muhammad won the California State Championship in both the 100 (10.52) and 200 (21.15) and finished 5th at the Adidas Grand Prix Dream 100 10.72.  Muhammad finished 4th in the 100 dash at the Arcadia Invitational and 6th in the 200 dash.

Tremayne Acy from Desoto HS in Texas finished the prelims with the 2nd fastest seed time in the 100 (10.77) and 3rd fastest seed time in the 200 meter dash (21.98).  Acy finished 3rd at the Texas State Meet with a time of 10.41 and finished 7th at the Adidas Grand Prix Dream 100 in 10.73. 

Devon Allen from Brophy Prep in Arizona has the 3rd fastest time heading into the 100 finals tonight with an 11.22.  He has the 2nd fastest time in the 200 meter dash in 21.67.  Allen won the  200 dash, 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles at the Arcadia Invitational.  He also won both hurdle events at the Arizona State Meet and finished 2nd in the 100 dash (10.49) and the 200 dash (20.75).  Allen will also run the 110 hurdles just before the 100 dash.

 

Chandler Sophmore Ky Westbrook (photo left) leads the field in the 100 and 200 dash heading into the finals.  Westbrook looked smooth as she cruised to 11.85 in the 100 and 24.66 in the 200.

 

Three Arizona girls are the top seeds in the 100 meter hurdles.  Sherelle Jordan (Chandler) has the top seed time of 14.40 followed by teammate Makaila Flannigan with 14.61 and Ashlee Moore (Hamilton) with 14.67.

 

Tatum Wagner from Pinnacle HS in Arizona has the fastest time in the 400 dash in 58.94.

 

Brophy Prep sophomore Robert Grant heads into the finals with the fastest 300 hurdle time of 38.27.

 

Jackie Modesett from St. John, Texas leads the field in the 300 hurdles with a time of 43.87.
