The dream of qualifying for Nike Nationals has become a reality for the Flower Mound girls cross country team.

Starting off strong at Marcus I, the Flower Mound girls carried that exciting momentum throughout the 2018 cross country season. "Throughout the whole season, we were able to prove that we were a competitive team and that we'd definitely be a contender for a Nike Cross National autobid," said Flower Mound sophomore, Mia Hoang.

Although their cross country season felt more like a fall track season after Texas faced record rainfalls, the girls viewed the track workouts positively and continued to progress in their training.

We have had several meets that have been insanely muddy and flooded and I think that has helped us get used to tough conditions similar to the ones in Portland," said Hoang.

After having two girls place in the top 10 and a good pack placement at the UIL State Championship, the Flower Mound girls knew what they were capable of heading into Nike South. On the starting line, the girls put any doubt behind them and raced to a strong finish, gapping the second place team by 17 points and earning their spot at the fast approaching Nike Cross Nationals on December 1st.

"The expectation for nationals is for us to focus on running our best race. We're very excited for the opportunity to compete against the best teams in the country!" said Flower Mound Coach, Andrew Cook.

A quality that makes this Flower Mound team special is their confidence in one another, making the race dynamic of the Flower Mound girls hard to defeat. With two strong runners up front and a tight pack following, it allows the girls to show their strength over other teams.

The Flower Mound girls now have the opportunity to express their fitness at the highest level. For the Lady Jaguars, Nike Nationals will be the cherry on top of an incredibly successful 2018 cross country season.
