Lake Charles, Louisiana – The Southeastern Louisiana men's and women's cross country teams both placed fifth at the Cowboy Stampede on Saturday.
Hosted by McNeese State, the Cowboy Invitational slated Southeastern against a total of nine in-state schools: Tulane, Louisiana-Lafayette, LSU, Northwestern, Loyola, Nicholls, Xavier and Southern.
On the women's side, freshman
Celia Zaeringer once again turned in the fastest Lady Lion time. Setting a new personal best, the New Orleans native completed the 5k race in 17:45.4.
Freshman
Clarissa Smith placed 26
th with a time of 18:55.7, while freshman Haley Gregoire also finished in the top 50 with a time of 19:26.2 (41
st). The Lady Lions placed fifth overall.
For the men, junior
Harry Wiggins ran a personal best and turned in the top Lion time of 20:01.1, placing 14
th. Also finishing among the top 50 runners were:
Joseph Edwards (21:28.0, 37
th),
Michael Perez (21:49.7, 43
rd),
Stephen Cassingham (22:02.4, 46
th), and
Isaiah Gilbert (22:07.7, 47
th). The men's side also place fifth overall.
"We are definitely moving in the right direction," said student assistant
Brandon Chapoton. "Both teams are showing the improvement that we are expecting at this point in the season."
Southeastern cross country will return to action on October 3
rd, when they compete in the Watson Ford Invitational, hosted by Mississippi College.
