ASU set to host LSC T&F

Nearly 300 student-athletes from around the region will converge at the LeGrand Sports Complex this weekend as Angelo State is hosting the 2010 Lone Star Conference Track & Field Championships. The event runs from Friday afternoon through Sunday evening.

A total of 299 - 126 women and 176 men - athletes from the eight LSC schools that sponsor track & field will be competing this weekend as the league will crown two team champions, 38 individual champions and four relay champions over the three-day event.

The Abilene Christian men's team is in search of its 16th consecutive team title and enters the LSC Meet ranked No. 3 in NCAA Division II. The Wildcats have won 25 men's titles all-time, by far the most among any school in the league. Host Angelo State is currently ranked No. 6 in NCAA D-II and is expected to give ACU a run for the team title this year. The Rams have won 10 men's team titles all-time, but have not hoisted the team trophy since 1992. Tarleton State is the only other men's team ranked in the top 25 at No. 23. The Texans are in search of their first-ever men's team title.

On the women's side, defending team champion and national runner-up Angelo State enters as the No. 1 team in NCAA D-II. The Rambelles are looking for their fourth women's title in seven years after claiming their first team crown in 2004. ACU women enter as the No. 23-ranked team in NCAA D-II and have won 23 women's titles dating back to their first crown in 1983. Prior to 2004, ACU had won ever women's title awarded by the LSC. The Wildcats had won three-straight crowns from 2006-08 before ASU recaptured the title last spring.

The women's heptathlon and men's decathlon kicks things off Friday afternoon at 2 p.m., setting the stage for the final two days of activities at the LeGrand Sports Complex. The multi-events continue at 10:30 a.m. Saturday before field events get underway at 3 p.m. Saturday's running events start at 6 p.m. On Sunday, field events begin at 12 p.m. with the running finals set for 5:30 p.m.

Friday's events are free to the public. Meet passes for the remainder of the event are $10 and can be purchased at the ticket booth located behind the grandstands of the LeGrand Sports Complex. Tickets for Saturday's events only run $5 for adults and $3 for students. Sunday only tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. ASU students receive free admission.
