LIVE OAK, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's cross country team was in top form at the 8
th annual UIW Cardinal Invitational held on Saturday morning at the Live Oak City Park. (

The Cardinals were the NCAA Division I team champions with 39 points. The team used a strong pack putting seven runners in the top 17 overall in a 6-kilometer race that included 96 competitors. Abilene Christian was second with 58 points, Texas State (60) was third and UT-Pan American (62) was fourth in the Division I standings.
In the non-Division I standings it was UT-Permian Basin coming out on top with 39 points. UT-Brownsville (74) and Lubbock Christian (77) competed for second place and were followed by Our Lady of the Lake (113), Concordia-Texas (115), Texas A&M-Kingsville (122) and Trinity (139).
The overall individual champion was ACU's Chloe Sussett who won by 21 seconds in a time of 22:30.48. UT-Permian Basin's Naraly Rodriguez was second in a time of 22:51.36.
The Cardinals top two runners were
Irma Garza (San Antonio/St. Anthony's HS) and
Christina Rivera (Brownsville/Rivera HS). Garza was seventh overall in a time of 23:24.11 as she out-kicked Rivera who came in eighth in a time of 23:24.98. UIW sealed the deal on the victory when their next three runners came crossed the tape in succession starting at 15
th place.
Bailey Loyd (Bucyrus, KS/Notre Dame de Scion) led the trio in a time of 24:08.90 and was followed by Clementine Kauffman (Hyeres, France/Lycee Notre Dame des Minimes), 24:10.24 and
Emma Jewell (San Antonio/Taft HS), 24:12.27.
Even the Cardinals' sixth and seventh runners competed well.
Vivian Diaz (El Paso/Chapin HS) was 25
th overall in a time of 24:33.11 and
Lindsey Frost (Portland/Gregory-Portland HS) was 31
st in a time of 24:55.02
The Cardinals are now done with the regular season and only have the Southland Conference Championships remaining on November 1 in Lake Charles, LA.
