Men's Cross Country By Lance Fleming

ACU to host first home event

ACU cross country notes, times

ABILENE – After a fairly uneventful first month of the season, the ACU cross country teams will close the 2009 campaign with a flurry beginning with Saturday's Naimadu Pre-Regional at Nelson Park.

The Wildcats will run at Nelson Park for the first time in several years after having run their home meets at Sherrod Park for the last several years. However, Sherrod Park is now the home of ACU's new Disc Golf Course, necessitating the move to Nelson Park.

The course the collegiate runners will run Saturday is the same course that will be on display on Nov. 7 when ACU hosts the NCAA Division II South Central Region championship meet.

Saturday's meet is named for former ACU great Nicodemus Naimadu, who is the only athlete in NCAA history – regardless of gender or NCAA division – to have won four straight individual cross country championships (2004-07). Naimadu led the Wildcats to consecutive NCAA Division II national titles in 2006 and 2007.

Saturday's meet will get started at 8 a.m. with junior high girls and continue through until past 1 p.m. The collegiate women will run a 4,000-meter course at 11:55 a.m., followed by the men's four-mile race at 12:40 p.m.
