A 3rd-place finish in 3A last fall was just the start, as this squad fielded 4 freshmen and 2 sophomores in that race.
The database projects Liberty Hill as the top returning team in the new 4A classification (they rank 6th overall in the state based on last year's 2 Mile times, but of course not all of the 5A and 6A schools post results at that distance, especially not late in the season). More important, however, is the fact that the Panthers ran an astounding 4 freshmen and 2 sophomores at the 3A state meet last year. This team projects to have only 1 senior in 2014, and that means Liberty Hill could be really loaded in 2015. With last year's 3A champ, College Station, moving to 5A this fall, the Panthers have an excellent chance to bring home a 4A team title. Chelsea Cole made the leap to sub-12 status during the spring season; if one more girl can manage that jump in the fall, this will be a tough team to beat. The best part of 2014 for Liberty Hill? They can aim for the title while knowing that they have a 2-year window, and that takes some of the pressure off.
