Runners usually don’t develop into sprinters. Speed is often a gift that comes unwrapped at a young age.  Aldrich Bailey, a senior at Mansfield Timberview in Arlington, Texas, has that gift. He made that known the summer after finishing the fifth grade when the young speedster blazed through 200 meters in about 25 seconds.

CHICAGO (January 23, 2012) — In its 27th year of honoring the nation’s best high school athletes, The Gatorade Company, in collaboration with ESPNHS, today announced Craig Nowak of Cypress Woods HS as its 2011-12 Gatorade Texas Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year.  Nowak is the first Gatorade Texas Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year to be chosen from Cypress Woods HS.

Calculated as of January 15, 2012 These rankings were calculated by scoring the rankings as a meet.We took the individual rankings and relay rankings and scored them as a normal meet: 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1. This rankings ranks every Univeristy, College, and Junior College in Texas.

Aldrich Bailey continued his impressive indoor season with the 60m and 200m titles are the Arkansas HS Invitational on Saturday. Aldrich won the 60 in a season best 8.64 than came back and blazed the 200m in 20.99. Aldrich is a senior at Mansfield Timberview and is the defending 400m state champion.  

Cameron Burrell (JR) won the 60m in a blazing 6.82 at the Carl Lewis Invitational on Saturday.

Hot Sprint Double For Texas Prep Aldrich Bailey Senior Aldrich Bailey (Timberview, Arlington, Texas) had quite an afternoon at the Texas A&M Classic on Saturday. First came the 400, where he ran 47.05 to move to No. 6 on the all-time high school indoor list. He followed that with a 21.14 that boosted him to =No. 6 ever. State champ Bailey was T&FN's No. 3 All-America in the 400 last year, running 46.53. And he ran the 200 in 21.09.

Cypress Woods cross country has a state champion. The Wildcats' Nowak finished first at the UIL Class 5A boys cross country championships Saturday in Round Rock. He finished first with a time of 15 minutes and 16.00 seconds.

Reagan's Vertiz captures silver medal in 5A boys. Boerne Champion's boys couldn't have picked a better time to turn in their top performance of the season than the UIL State Cross Country Meet. Because of the quality showing, the Chargers won their third Class 4A title in four years by dethroning defending champion Cedar Park on Saturday at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. Round Rock � Strake Jesuit finished second in the Class 5A Boys Cross Country State meet on Saturday at Old Settlers Park Crusaders coach Mike Kerley was proud of the way his young team prepared to get to this point. Despite its youth, the Crusaders trained in the offseason with the expectation of getting to the state finals. The Mustangs finished fourth in the overall standings, and coach Steve Haffbelber expected his veteran squad to finish strong this season. The junior will look to repeat his performance next season, and eclipsing the personal record will drive Teel through offseason training. LUBBOCK — It wasn’t the greatest of days on paper for the Tascosa boys cross country team Saturday at the Region I meet at Mae Simmons Park.But it was good enough to earn a berth in the state meet next weekend.Despite having only one runner in the top 25, Tascosa managed to secure the third and final team berth out of Class 5A for the state meet in Round Rock. Arin Rice made beans Saturday out of the best times at Thompson Park in the last 17 years as she covered the 2-mile course in 11:38.5 to help Canyon defend its Amarillo Invitational Cross Country Meet title.Rice, the defending class 4A 800 meter state champion and 1600 meter bronze medalist, along with teammates Karah Diaz and C.J. Frizzell, claimed the top three positions in the 41-runner field to lead Canyon with 25 points. District 3-4A rivals Randall (39 points) and Hereford (83) followed. (via amarillo.com)

Great week of cross country across Texas. The Woodlands Meet and Marcus I meet had some great teams compete and great times. Here is a full summary of all the results both collegiately and High School.

Northlakes Park, Denton - #1 Ranked Southlake Carroll impressed putting 5 in the top in the top 8 overall averaging 15:28.98. Joe Sansone led the dragons placing 3rd overall running 15:11.90. Sansone got out fast running a 4:43 for the first mile split. Sansone kept a strong place at mile 2 splitting 5:02 (9:45). Other ranked teams participating in the meet included #6 Marcus, #7 Flower Mound, and teams receiving votes in the CCCAT poll McKinney Boyd and Amarillo Tascosa.. 3A #1 Sanger did very well in the team competition placing 7th overall beating 5A ranked team Marcus.

  Northlakes Park, Denton - Just like in the Boys race the #1 Southlake Carroll Dragons dominated the Marcus I meet over the best teams in North Texas. The Lady Dragons were led by JR Shelby Chapin.
