8 High Jumpers To Watch In 2017

ALYSSA MILLER (McKinney Boyd)

Alyssa Miller really began to hit her stride last year during the championships season. While she was jumping between 5 feet 2 inches and 5-4 all season long, everything clicked for her at districts and she began soaring to new heights. The McKinney Boyd sophomore began to explode and crushed a new PR of 5-8. Miller moved on to the region meet but was unable to replicate her PR performance and finished third, only two inches behind the winner, Sanaa Barnes from Northwest Nelson, who jumped 5-7. Miller then competed in two postseason meets: the TTFCA Meet of Champions and the AAU Region 18 Qualifier. At the AAU Region 18 Qualifier meet she dominated the competition in the heptathlon high jump, clearing 5-10--nine inches higher than her competition. In her junior year, Miller ranks as the top returner in the state and will look to make a run at her first state meet appearance. Miller is not only a solid high jumper but also an all-around heptathlete who we could see make leaps and bounds in several other events this year.
