Texas Relays: Which Events To Watch For

Frederic Williams has the furthest jump of all Texans this outdoor season

Boys Long Jump
The boys long jump should be an awesome competition. Texas is a big state and with different weather conditions in different areas. With many of the best jumpers scheduled to be at the Texas Relays, we'll get the chance to see who is a contender and who is a pretender. Texas has some very far marks on the season and some big names who are all looking to take the Texas Relays crown.

There are four 24 foot jumpers that will be present and many 23 footers who will be in Austin. FREDERIC WILLIAMS has the furthest jump on the season with his 24'-8.5 PR at the Lancaster meet of Champions. Manvel's CALEB JOLIVETTE is the New Balance Nationals Indoor 60m champion. Last week at the Victor Lopez Classic, he used that mega speed to propel him to a 24-3.5 PR.

But wait, there are still two more 24 foot guys. Texas' most consistent jumper over the last three years is Fort Worth Boswell's JALEN SEALS. Seals will arrive in Austin with a 24-1 SB for the outdoor season. He is coming off of a successful indoor season in which he placed second in both the long jump and triple jump at the New Balance Nationals Indoor championships. Seals should definitely be watched for the Texas Relays crown because he is the defending state champion with a 24-11 PR.

Pflugerville's MATTHEW SALAIZ possibly has one of the shortest travels to the Texas Relays. That should keep him with fresh legs as he will be trying to improve on his 24-0.75 PR. Keep an eye on Salaiz as the junior he looks to keep improving on his awesome season.
