Gilbert, a recent graduate of Converse Judson had a comeback season.
Injury ended his junior season and he had to watch his team run, jump, and throw their way to the 2017 UIL 6A state meet. This season, with health on his side, he was able to rack up accomplishment after accomplishment and one fast time after another.
Texas Relays was perhaps the meet that indicated Gilbert was a ready for the championship season. He place first in the 300H (36.87) and second in the 110H (13.91). From there, he continued to compete well through district, regionals, and area heading into the state meet. In Austin, he won both hurdle events at the UIL 6A state meet with his 13.53 and 36.18 efforts ranking him #2 in the 110s and #3 in the 300s nationally, then he ran anchor on the 4x400 relay.
