With the Cross Country season getting underway there are many meets throughout Texas that get ran. Some at different distances with it being early season.

Today we are going to cover some of the performances this week that might have been overlooked but outstanding in their own right. Either having a massive PR or just on a hot streak of great races. We are going to recognize 5 athletes that had break through races last week. Their seasons are looking bright.

#1 Zachary Brumfield - Wylie High School

In his opening race of the 2023 season Brumfield ran an outstanding 15:22 3-mile at the Southlake Invite #1. Last Cross Country season this sophomore ran a 16:19 5K and in his track season, he ran 1:59 in the 800. His 3-mile time would be the equivalent of a 15:56 5K. Sophomore Brumfield is proving he is an Elite talent that shouldn't be overlooked.

#2 Joshua Perez - Katy High School

Perez opened up his cross-country season at the Kingwood Classmate Challenge against all of the other surrounding area Juniors in his class. He finished this 3200 race in a blistering 9:39 on the grass. Coming off of last season's track season he finished with 4:37 1600 and 9:56 3200. This junior is one to keep your eyes on.

#3 Jaxon Asbill - Dayton High School

Coming off a strong track season, Asbill ran at the Kingwood Classmate Challenge this last weekend. Being the Sophomore race champion he went through the finish line with a confident 9:46 3200. This makes his 2 mile the fastest for the sophomore class last week. Running a load of miles over the summer, Asbill is looking to improve on his 17:07 5K PR. He is running his first 5K this Saturday at the Mustang Thunder Invitational. He is an elite talent that you will hear more of and has a bright future.

#4 Colby Lange - Keller Timber Creek

Senior Lange is entering his senior season continuing where he left off last Cross Country season. Running a 3-mile PR of 15:01, he is looking to match his outstanding 5K PR of 15:35 from last year. Being from Keller Timber Creek lands him in the tough 6A District 4 with Southlake Carroll and the rest of the Keller high schools. He is looking to hold his own in one of the toughest districts and regions in the state.

#5 Pranav Vegiraju - Coppell High School

Being on the 5th ranked team in the state in the CCCAT poll, Pranav has been a key member of their success. Running 15:58 and 15:59 the past two weeks he has shown he can perform on an elite level. With his 15:59 3-mile translating to a 16:35 5k, he arguably has the biggest time drop in the state. With his 2022 5K PR being 19:57 that's a 3 minute and 22 second drop. That is enough reason alone to land on this list.
