Tara Davis recently smashed the indoor national record of 21-7.5 in the long jump as she flew 21-11 in the long jump at the Dunamis Sports Group Prep Classic. The previous national record was a 36-year-old record held by two-time olympian & world medalist, Carol Lewis. Will Tara Davis be the next American record holder in the long jump? Only time will tell!
The environment at The Star on Friday night was electric. The biggest moment of the night came when Tara Davis (Agoura, CA) pumped up the crowd and leaped to a new U.S. #1 and national record mark of 21'11". Davis is from California but competes in Texas quite a bit because she has family in the DFW area. "With them here they gave me the most support I've ever had at a meet, so it's overall just the best feeling," said Davis after her jump. Davis's jump shatters Carol Lewis's (Willingboro, New Jersey) 36-year-old national record mark of 21'7.5". Coincidentally, that record was set in Dallas back on January 31st, 1981, so there's something to be said about indoor track in North Texas. Davis will compete in the triple jump and 60mH's tomorrow. Get up to speed on this weekend's national record marks
Reed Brown and the Pursuit For The Sub 4Southlake senior Reed Brown took the mile by storm on Saturday night. He went out guns a blazing and never looked back. You could tell he was in pursuit of a sub-four mile. He took the first 200m out in right around 30 seconds and hit the 400m mark in 1:00.07 he then followed that up coming through 800m in about 2:01.30. So he was just off the pace for breaking the sub 4 barrier at the 800m mark. At the 1K mark, he hit 2:32.50 and continued to dip from there. The performances although not sub-four is still extremely impressive for a solo attempt at the feat indoors. Browns final time of 4:06.40 ranks U.S. #2 only behind Rhode Island's D.J. Principe. We're super excited to watch Brown run this track season as a sub four performance is on the horizon for this young star. In a larger field with national-caliber talent, like NBNI there's not telling what could happen, it's only a matter of time before we witness history.
