Cedar Park Invitational

The weather was perfect this morning at Cedar Park High. The rain soaked course held up well as some of the best athletes from Central Texas competed. The highlight of the girls 5A race was the competitive team battle between 4A #2 Cedar Park, 5A #5 Katy Seven Lakes, and 5A #8 Austin Westlake. #5 Katy Seven Lakes was very impressive winning the meet with a team low score of 56 averaging 19:33 with a 1:05 1-5 Spread. The team was led again by Erica Brown. #8 Austin Westlake looked strong again this week. They had 1:05 1-5 Spread. Meet host 4A #2 Cedar Park had their most impressive outing of the season. They averaged 20:07 with a 2:00 1-5 Spread. They had 2-5 within 4 seconds of each other and their #1 Brittiny Innis won the individual title over defending state champ Madi Boreman (Leander Rouse).

The Individual race was a classic with the 3 girls battling from the beginning. Madie Boreman (Leander Rouse) led at the first mile with a brisk 5:35 followed closely by Melanie Enriquez (Round Rock Stony Point), Alyssa Moody (Round Rock) and Brittany Innis (Cedar Park). At the 2 Mile mark Boreman, Enriquez, and Innis broke away from everyone else coming through at 11:55. Brittany Innis broke away late in the race to win the title in 18:29 stamping herself as one of the early favorites to win the 4A individual title.

Big shoutout to Luling star Kristaly Munoz. The 2A star ran in the 5A division and competed very well getting 4th overall in 18:52. The time and place are impressive but the way she raced was even more impressive closing late in the race.

Girls Highlights

The Boys 5A race was a good one also. The team race was dominated by 4A #1 Cedar Park. They beat some very good 5A teams. They averaged a season best 16:56 with a 1:05 1-5 spread. They were led by Logan Thomas who placed 4th overall in 16:20. Oak Ridge came all the way from Conroe and did very well placing 2nd overall in the team division averaging 16:59 led by Luis Alvarez.

The individual battle was a good strategic match-up with the boys going through a conservative 4:55 led by Roderick Bell and Chandler Rathke (Katy 7 Lakes) with a group of 8 right behind including eventual winner Caleb Hollifeld (Round Rock). The 2 mile mark had the boys slow a bit as Roderick Bell came through at 10:25 dropping everyone except a fast closing Hollifield. Caleb surged in a quick last mile and earned his 3rd victory of the season. His final time was 16:06. Darren Medrano (Georgetown) came well of the pace to close very well in the last mile also earning him 2nd in 16:08.

In the 4A-Under division the Luling boys were truly dominate. They put 4 in the top 7 and averaged 16:54 for their top 5. They actually averaged better then the 5A division winner Cedar Park. I really liked the uniforms also.
