ARLINGTON – Richardson's Jillian Rosen in Class 5A and McKinney North's Samantha Means in Class 4A were repeat winners in the girls division of the UIL Region II cross country championships at Vandergriff Park on Saturday. Means' win also helped her McKinney North team unseat Highland Park as regional champion.

Plano West's girls in Class 5A and Mesquite Poteet's boys in Class 4A also claimed Region II team titles.

The top 10 individuals and top three teams qualify for the state meet. North had three of the top seven finishers in Means (first in 11:02.50), Stephanie Ganter (fourth in 11:43.19) and Sandy Castro (seventh in 11:57.52).

"I can't keep from smiling," said Means, who will be happy to have her teammates join her in the state meet. McKinney North finished with 67 team points. Highland Park, led by freshman Sara Sutherland, was second at 82. Sutherland was the individual runner-up, and Highland Park's only top-10 finisher.
