Preseason XC Countdown: Girls #10

Texas MileSplit is counting down the 12 days until the first full weekend of cross country meets. Each day we will highlight one boys team and one girls team, with the idea that they are "programs to watch" for the upcoming season. This series is not intended to be a true ranking of the top 12 teams in the state overall, but instead an opportunity to highlight schools that have had strong recent success or have lots of talent returning for this fall.

Kim Endo was the lone representative of her team at the state meet last fall, but this year should be a different story.

We seem to have a recurring theme with the opening teams in this countdown - young teams that have a good chance to hit their stride this fall (don't worry, the perennial powers are coming later). Frisco Liberty fits the bill, having graduated only one girl from the squad that didn't even make the 4A state championship last fall. Kim Endo made it, and finished 15th, but we don't have any track results from her to gauge continued improvement; in fact, only one of the top 7 returning girls on this team have any results from the spring. The database projects the Redhawks as the 3rd-best team in the new 5A classification, but I see them as the biggest mystery among the top 10 returning "5K teams" in Texas. The talent is there, and with the development of a bit more depth Liberty could be a force; on the other hand, nobody knows what training this team has put in over the last 9 months. Unlike some of the other early teams in the countdown, though the Redhawks should be feeling some pressure to peak in 2014, as their top two runners are seniors.
