Boys 4x200m

State of the Action: The boys 4x200m will be the first event, first final, and first rematch between some of the battles we saw at Texas Relays. Keep an eye on lane 4 which holds your current US #1. The boys from Marshall are just .13 off of the Top-10 ALL TIME in this event, and they think with a few adjustments they could run 1:22, which would be a new national record!
But they'll get a serious challenge from the Manvel boys who will be searching for redemption after missing a championship last weekend, and they have the talent to make it happen at Rice.
Kingwood will be a to watch as they start to get their top guys rolling, will be interesting to see Myles Marshall mixing it up in this sprint relays.

Boys 800m Prelims

State of the Action: The boys 800m has no dominant entry. It will be a lot of tight battles through the 6 prelim heats to make the 12 spots in the finals. Qualifiers determined solely on time. Top seeds have been running 1:57-1:59 so far this season, and it may require a sub-2:00 effort to move on.

Boys 110H Prelims

State of the Action: The Top-12 times will adavance from the 6 heats, leaving no room to mess around. Winning your heat wont guarantee a spot in the finals. Barring a mishap, one athlete who will undoubtably be in the finals is Julia Heymach. She still holds the fastest time in the state, nearly running under 2:10.

Boys 400m Prelims

State of the Action: 12 heats with the Top-8 advancing on time only. Heat 7 could see a finals preview with Myles Marshall & Howard Fields going head to head. Marshall has run a solid 400m already this season, but not reflected in the national ranking as it was hand times, we will see if the rising star from Manvel can challenge Marshall as he may race him twice this weekend.
Interesting note: the top 200m athlete in the state Obi Igbokwe is stepping up to the 400m, will see if he can translate that short distance sprint speed into a fast 400m time.

Marshall, Myles Kingwood
Fields, Howard Manvel High

Boys 3k Finals

State of the Action: There are two sections of the boys 3k, but the top guys are all facing off in the second heat. Connor Meaux is coming off a weekend where he ran a very impressive 4:14 in the mile, and his teammate Nelton also running under 4:20. They have yet to run in a loaded race, and may finally have a field that is able to challenge them.
Bell had a solid race in the 3200m at Texas Relays, and he will be part of that lead group.

Bell has a bit more experience racing in a fast field this season compared to some of the other guys here. Gift, Mills, Murray, and McClellan are all names that will be in the mix as the race gets towards the later stages. McClellan showed some impressive closing speed anchoring his DMR to first at Texas Relays. He's not a guy you want to have on your shoulder into the home stretch.

Boys Long Jump

State of the Action: There are a lot of guys competing in this event, but the favorite has to be Brett Winnegan. He hasn't been able to replicate his early season 25' jump, but after an off day at Texas Relays, he'll be looking to come out on top here.

Boys Shot Put

State of the Action: Piperi is the heavy favorite as he is coming off a win and PR at Texas Relays throwing over 63'. There's a lot of depth in this field throwing over 50'. If Piperi has an off day, there are 5-6 guys who could come away with the win.
