Went mudding today at regionals

5) Region of Mud
The course at Region 3 was pure insanity! The times are unbelievable, and not because they are fast. If you knew nothing about the course conditions, and just looked at times...you would think they ran closer to a 6k. Nathan Gift and Julia Heymach came away with individual wins, as was expected. Behind them was utter chaos. Running through 3+ miles in deep mud and difficult conditions evens the playing field. Physically stronger athletes will be able to handle the extra effort it takes to battle not only other athletes, but the course. I encourage you to look through the results, as you will notice some names high up on the list that surprise you, as well as athletes much further down the list than was expected.
It's refreshing to have a real mess of a cross country race to mix up the usual race track style courses we get in Texas.
