Watch UIL Champ Noah Wells Battle TAAPS Champ Matthew Arndorfer At The Moonlight Mile

2017 John Cooper School Moonlight Mile

The Moonlight Mile is another awesome meet that highlights and promotes our Texas distance runners on the track. Actually, runners of all ages get out to these meets to test their fitness. For the high school runners, this no longer becomes a race versus their competitors, but it is more so a race against the clock as the athletes main focus is to run the best time of their life. In fact, other runners become partners and they use each other for pacing.

This week, we've asked the question, can TAAPS athletes compete with UIL competitors. The Moonlight Mile showcased one of the TAAPS best runners competing against a heavy UIL field. MATTHEW ARNDORFER from Carrollton Prince of Piece travelled down to the Houston suburb to participate and take on some of UIL's best. Arndorfer is the TAAPS 3-time 3200m champion and just last week added the 1600m title to his belt. He has been one of TAAPS most consistent distance stars over the last couple of years and is moving on to compete at the University of Oklahoma.

Even though Arndorfer has the accomplishments, don't forget to add his times. He PRed last week at the TAAPS Championships with a 4:22.21 1600m and a whoppping  9:19.02! He droppped a lot of times in both races. However, he wasn't done. Last night, he lowered his 1600m PR to 4:17.18.

The Woodlands High School is well known for many things, that definitely includes their distance programs. The boys won the Texas UIL team championships for the last two straight years. They have also been one of the top teams in the nation in those years, holding the #1 ranking in the nation for several weeks last Fall. Their top runner NOAH WELLS, who is a University of Michigan signee, was there to meet Arndorfer's challenge. The two went back and forth over the four laps providing a very entertaining race.

Watch as the only UIL runner able to take down Arndorfer on this night was Noah Wells.
