Double Trouble: Texas Athlete Qualifies For State In Both Track And Golf

Who says you can't do two things well at once?

Lauren Chasczewski, a sophomore at Grapevine High in Texas, is one particular case.

The standout two-sport athlete, who posted a high jump mark of 5 feet, 4 inches at the University Interscholastic League Class 5A Regional Meet two weeks ago -- her second straight clearance over 5-4, in fact -- not only qualified for the UIL Track and Field Championships this weekend at the University of Texas, but she also landed a qualification into the Class 5A golf championships, too.

Fortunately for Chasczewski, who hails from Colleyville, Texas, and has competed on the Northern Texas Junior PGA Golf circuit, she won't be forced to choose one event over the other.

She'll compete in Austin on Friday in the high jump. Then she'll follow with about a 40 mile drive to Bastrop's Wolfdancer Golf Club, where she'll hope to contend for a big finish at the state golf tournament.

Even better, she nailed a hole-in-one at the Region 1 golf tournament in Lubbock. Talk about confidence.

"Oh, God - I don't really have a word for it," Chasczewski told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "It's just so weird -- just even like the hole-in-one, and I'm going to state in two sports, it's just weird to me."

While this will be the second straight year in which Chasczewski qualified for the Class 5A golf tournament, it will be her first outing at the state championships in track.
