Bailey Lear has had a long journey that brought her to tonight. From the days of running to the awards stand at the UIL state meet as just a 14 year old freshman and Texas A&M High School Indoor Classicsuccess and back down to the JV ranks. Lear has seen it all. After a move and transfer at the end of her sophomore year, she wasn't granted a waiver to compete at her new school Frisco Heritage. Lear took full advantage of her opportunity when she got it.
As a junior at the TTFCA Meet of Champions, Lear reminded everyone of how talented she is when she dropped a 53.02. That is when her season really started. From there she went on to drop several more 53s throughout the summer including a 53.32 to win the Brooks PR Invitational.
Tonight, Lear completed the next chapter as she committed to the University of California. On USC, Lear said, "It was the academics and athletics," as to what led to her decision.
Lear, who skipped a grade because of her advanced academics will be a 17 year old freshman when she arrives to Los Angeles."Caryl Smith Gilbert, Quincy Watts, and Joanna Hayes and are all former athletes and they know how it is, I'm excited that I'm going to be coached by them."
For the 2017 track season, we will have to wait and watch to see what is in store for Lear, but for now, her story takes her from JV to USC!
