The boys 800 was slated to be great based on the entries. Two of the expected studs (Carlos Rodriguez and Wes McPhail) were coming right off of the 4x400 relay and were a little gassed. However, that didn't stop the show. Eldorado HS (NM) senior Harrison Smith III got off to a good start with UIL 5A 1600m champ Michael Abeyta from El Paso Hanks. It was a two man race from start to finish with Smith III taking the win over the Abeyta in 1:57.36 to 1:57.65. McPhail was able to recover during the race to put together a tough 2:00.68 effort for thire place.
