The fast times just keep on coming at the Texas Tech Open. This time it comes from one of the distance races.
Amarillo Tascosa senior Wes McPhail ran the mile earlier this morning and he had himself quite the race. McPhail who was running against college runners showed no trepidation. Entering this race had the intended purpose of running fast. He left nothing to chance as he ran straight to the front of the pack in the first 200m coming through with 32.91 and 1:03.86 (30.58) splits for the first 400m.
McPhail led the entire race up to the last 400m when Ricardo Mendoza of UT Rio Grande Valley took the lead and carried it to the win. McPhail followed through the last two laps covering it in 1:03.91 for a second place finishing time of 4:19.11 and the top time in Texas this indoor season.
McPhail, the Texas A&M commit is scheduled to run the 3,000m later this afternoon.
