Winsday Spotlight Girls: Dynasty McClennon

The 2018 track and field season is now in full swing. That means it's time to really consistently acknowledge the outstanding performances as the season continues to progress.

That brings us to the Girls Winsday Spotlight. Each Wednesday, we will highlight some of the deserving teams or individuals that keep driving the 2018 track and field season forward.

This week we shine the spotlight on the Dynasty McClennon

McClennon, just a freshman has the second fastest outdoor time in the state in the 400m. McClennon checks in with two top times on the season, a 56.82 and a 55.66 on the season.

Not only is she gifted in the 400m, but McLennon also brings the speed.  McClennon also has two top 200 times on the year with her 24.57 and 24.64.

Although this is her first varsity season, one could have seen this coming. The sign was during the indoor season when she had indoor PRs of 7.82 - 60m, and 57.68 - 400m.

McClennon has not only made a splash individually, but she has also helped give her Humble Summer Creek team a jolt. Summer Creek currently is the #3 ranked 4x100 relay in Texas as they check in with a 46.83. They sit behind only DeSoto and Mansfield Lake Ridge, two teams who were two of the top teams last season. Summer Creek also has a 1:41.12 in the 4x200 relay which ranks them #9 in Texas, and a 3:57.57 4x400 relay that has them ranked #13 in the state. Last year, Summer Creek only raked in the top 35 in the 4x200 as they were #16.

The current top times and positive effect on her team didn't come without obstacles and challenges. McClennon missed her entire eighth grade track season and her club season as she suffered an ACL injury playing basketball. McClennon had to undergo the tough process of sitting out and watching friends and teammates enjoy success and have fun while she recovered and rehabbed.

All of that is now in the past, and on the last Wednesday in February 2018, McClennon is back on the track and enjoying the success she is used to including being our Winsday Spotlight athlete.
