The Austin area is booming with talent this season and the rankings show just how good the area is. Anthony Monte of Austin Vandegrift is one of the athletes in the area who is tearing it up so far in 2018.
Monte jumped out of the blocks early and fast with a 9:34 2 mile time in his first meet. He then went on to tear things up in The Woodlands at the Friday Night Lights meet with his 4K win in 12:21.90.

The success in the shorter distance were just an indicator of what was to come last week at Marcus I. Monte took on some the top runners in Texas and fared pretty well with his 15:38 5K PR. His 5K progression had been going the wrong way. But his hot start looks to be a consistent thing that we should get accustomed to. This is a major boost to the Vandegrift squad that should be looking to run their way to Austin out of a tough Region IV.
