Girls 2019 Preseason UIL Team Rankings

2019 6A Girls Preseason Rankings

Editor's Comments

The 2019 XC season will be another climatic and dramatic season full of excitement. Can anyone crack the DFW team's dominance this year? Do the Bridgeland and Austin Vandegrift teams have the best shots at doing so?  Is SLC back to form? How much better will Flower Mound and Prosper be? Can Coppell pull it off again? Who will be representing the South at NXN?

There are a lot of questions and we might not have answers until October or maybe even November.

RANKTEAMLAST RESULTCOMMENTS
1
The Carroll Dragons are always close and always lurking around the top spot of Texas. That is where they start off they start off our 2019 rankings. They finished fourth at state last year and graduated two seniors. Not many tams can reload like coach Leonard's program. Their returners bring an 18:32 5K average and a 42 second 1-5 split in from last season's stats. Junior Grace Williamson will lead the squad this year.
2
Coach Cook's team returns 6 of 7 runners from their 2018 runner-up season. Those six are all sophomores and juniors except for one senior. Sophomore Natalie Cook is the leader of the Lady Jags. The FM girls look to get back to NXN this year as they did in 2018.
3
Coach Kennedy has built a gold mine in a short time. Bridgeland has only been in existence for three years and they check in ranked #3 for 2019. Led by freshman Cassidy Graham, the Bears finished 7th at state last year with freshmen, sophomores, and one junior. They can win a trophy this year.
4
Vandegrift had a very good season in 2018. They want more this season. After a 6th place finish, the expectations are a trophy and NXN. With one graduation, their core returns led by senior All-State runner Jordan Mathis.
5
Coppell won the Texas state title with a huge team performance. They used a 15 second 1-5 split, which is almost unheard of at the state meet. They'll be back this season looking to repeat. They have to replace two from a graduation hit, but Coach Benton will have the team ready to repeat when the time counts.
6
Coach Gegogeine led her young team to a season to remember. That season to remember is now in the rear view. Prosper will look to improve on their third place state finish and their NXN berth Aubrey O'connell will not only lead the team, but she will be one of the top girls in Texas. This season will be good and Prosper will be in the mix.
7
Smithson Valley gets in on the fountain of youth. They return a young group from their 12th place state meet finish. They have a new coach in Coach Hall to start things off for the new season with, but it ought to be another good one for the Rangers.
8
Coach Pitzel has seen her crew improve year after year. This year could be bigger and better. There will be some changes to the young Tompkins squad but surprisingly they might be better than before. They finished 11th last year at state and look to improve on that.
9
The Katy Tigers ended 2018 with a solid performance at the state meet. They were 10th overall at state and graduated only one from that group. Senior Audrey Witham returns to lead coach Darby's 2019 squad.
10
College Park's 9th place finish from last year was impressive. They have to replace two seniors for this year, but they have the talent and the coaching to do so. Madeline Orr is their top returner.
11
McKinney Boyd returns a full squad of broncos ready for the 2019 season. They will be led once again by Kate Leonard, but they are deep and that could be their best asset.
12
The Lady Highlanders have one of the more successful programs over the years. Coach Hanson will start the season off with the same hopes as all of the others. As we learned last year, don't count his squad out.
13
Westlake finished 16th last season at the state meet. They return every single one of their top seven runners. The squad has a good foundation with their returning 1-5 split that is less than 60 seconds.
14
Clear Falls may be a surprise team to see in the top 25, but you will see that they belong. They team will be led by Kennedy Wade and Sophia Strange. This squad returns with a sub 40 second split in the stats.
15
Coach Mathis has kept her Cinco Ranch squad relevant for years. This year is no different. She has two of the best girls in the state with Heidi Nielson and Sophie Atkinson. The Cougars could be more dangerous than you think.
16
Coach Ponsonby has a runner we all know about in Brynn Brown. However, the rest of his squad is still very capable. Guyer is good!
17
Coach Allen has a solid squad. With Gabriella Barrera as the leader for Timber Creek this team can roll with the best of them.
18
Plano East enters the season with a 19:37 5K average and a 1:02 split. They will be a surprise this year in the DFW area.
19
Kingwood enters the season with a 19:38 5K average. They are led by senior Rachel James.
20
Coach Zaring has one runner remaining from his super squads. Vera Thompson will make this team hers now and take on the 2019 season.
21
NB Canyon's 19:49 returning team average is very good.
22
Coach Capeau always has something brewing. His squad's 2019 season will a sub 20 5K average and a 62 second 1-5 split. They check in at #22, but that could change in a flash.
23
Coach Telaneus is a master and has a degree at doing this. He will have his squad ready to roll this year. They return with a 19:47 5K average. They are led by Austin Owen.
24
Avery Clover is the top girl on the Atascocita team, but Coach Symons can develop runners with the best of them. He will have his team ready.
25
Brenna Zerby is the Allen lead runner. There are other capable runners on the squad like Emilie Morgan who ran a 19:05 5K this weekend. If they close the gap with 3-5 runners, watch out for the Eagles!
