Top 5 Varsity Race Videos From This Weekend

With a full weekend of racing going on in one of the biggest states in the country, it's kind of hard to comb through all of the content.

Here are the best varsity race videos of the weekend from the east to west and north to south parts of the state.

RGV Classic Varsity Boys Race

This race was a good one. Some of the top RGV schools were there as well as Klein, from the Houston area. Klein is a very good team and has been ranked in the top 5 several times over the last two years. Freddy Calvillo is expected to assume the crown as the RGV's top boy from Cruz Gomez and he has been running as expected this season.

The combination of some usual RGV teams and Klein made a powerful race. The race boiled down to a kick between Calvillo and Christopher Daniels of Klein.

Marcus I Elite Varsity Girls

This race was loaded and we knew it would be explosive and that it was. A lad pack formed early and it would push the pace to a fast race.

This race took an unexpected turn or maybe it didn't take the expected turn (literally). There was some confusion as to why this race was categorized as 3 miles instead of 5K, but we caught a little of it on camera.

The right call was made on the distance of the race, but that didn't stop the girls from blazing the famous North Lakes Park course. Gracie Morris won the race with a late pull away move she put on Natalie Cook and Jenna Holland who both ran extremely well. Watch the big time team battle between Soutlake Caroll and Flower Mound.

Hippensteel Lockhart 5A-6A Boys

This course was beautiful and full of turns and plenty of chances for spectators to watch the race. The 5A-6A boys gave plenty of action for all to see. This race came down to a final stretch sprint between two guys who didn't lead until late in the race.

San Antonio Brandeis' Tristan Hunter-Galvan patiently stalked the leaders until he was ready to make a move and a push for the win. However doing much of the same, just further back in the race was Lockhart's David Mendez-Serrato who further back in the race and moved up as the race progressed until the very end when he used the element of surprise to drop some speed and get the win.

Falfurrias Varsity Boys

This race went out with a couple of guys all looking to take the lead. However, it was Edcouch Elsa senior Albino Rodgriguez who would run away with things. He ran unchallened for the last half of the race, but still managed a good time with his 16:07.70 for the victory.

His team also followed suit as they finished 1, 4, 6, 8, 19 in the team scoring column to only dial up a 38 point win.

Marcus I Elite Varsity Boys

This race did not let the pre meet hype down. From the team race to the individual race, it gave us the early season cross country fix we wanted.

Flower Mound won the team race with an unbelievable team exhibition and the individual race came down to an unmatched final 1K move from the reigning UIL 3A state champ Judson Greer. The second straight week in a row Jarret Kirk and Anthony Monte sprinted home and needed a photo finish to separate them. The only other question in the race was, what happened to Greer's face.

Nevertheless, this was one of the best races of the weekend.
