Lovejoy Dominant At District 10-5A

It just doesn't get much better than it did yesterday for the Lucas Lovejoy cross country teams. Both the girls and the boys squads came out hitting hard as they were looking for district championships.

The girls won both titles and the boys did so as well.

Girls

Lovejoy freshman Amy Morefield has had a good year and it started from the beginning and hasn't slowed down yet.

Morefield won the District 10-5A meet on Tuesday afternoon. That is a huge accomplishment for a freshman, as is her win over the three time UIL 5A London Culbreath, in the process.

The season started off at one of the toughest meets in the state for Morefield at the Marcus I Invitational where she finished sixth overall with a 17:26.09 three mile time. From there, she added a 18:17.05 win at the Lovejoy XC Fall Festival, and a 18:15.70 at the McNeil Invite for an eighth place finish prior to winning district.

Talent isn't the only trait that Morefield has displayed this season. She clearly has the big race pedigree and consistency that will prove to be big in her quest for the state meet.

Her win helped lead the Lovejoy squad to the Varsity Girls district championship. With the support of Amelia Carothers and Zoe Bessa, Lovejoy placed three girls in the top five and six of their top seven girls in the top 10 as they scored 21 points.

The Lovejoy JV girls one upped the Varsity group by dropping a perfect score. Led by Senior Andrea Richardson, the Lady Leopards finished first through seventh place to get their perfect 15 point score and to complete their part of district dominance.

Boys

The Lovejoy boys were not to be upstaged. Like the girls, they also won both JV and Varsity races. They joined the JV Girls in dropping perfect gem races.

The Varsity Boys cruised to a 16:37 team average for their perfect score as they finished first through sixth place led by Will Muirhead's 16:01.80 for his second straight district win.

The JV boys race was even more dominating going for their 15 points. They ran their top eleven runners across the finish line before another jersey did. They also had 14 of the top 15 runners representing in Lovejoy jerseys.

The Lovejoy girls and boys will compete at the Region 2-5A Championship meet on Monday October 28, 2019 at the University of Texas at Arlington.
