Last year, the weather was cool and just slightly cooler than perfect running conditions. The way the last week has gone, this year's race could possibly be the same for the 2019 SPC State meet. Let's take a look at how last year went down.
Last year, we saw Adoette Vaughan win her fourth SPC state cross country individual title. We also saw a great team battle with Houston Kinkaid taking the win. Second place wasn't too far behind, but it was a lot closer between two teams. Houston Episcopal took second place by one point, 92 over third place Dallas Hockaday with their 93 points.
Girls Championship Race
Austin St. Stephens' Travis Dowd won the individual race. He led his team to another state championship in 2018. He graduated and is at Rice University and there will no doubt be a new state champion crowned tomorrow.
St Stephens easily took last year's team win by only scoring 37 points. They were followed by two other teams on the podium who demonstrated they were clearly better than the others on that day. Dallas St. Marks was second in the team race by placing two in the top five. They scored 68 points, just five points ahead of third place The John Cooper School who scored 73 points.
