Interview with Kim Kirby

  1. So right now you are the 5A state leader with your 11:12... did you expect to see yourself at the top of the list? And what goals have you set for yourself?

I definitely wasn’t expecting to be at the top of the list.  My goal is to take each workout day by day focusing on the quality and know that the hard work and dedication will lead to a good end result.

  1. You have run against some great competition this season. Is there anyone else you are looking forward to race this season?  I’m looking forward to racing against top state contenders so I can pushing myself and see what I can do.

  1. You are located in the Dallas area but race in Region I. What are your thoughts on the Mae Simmons course in Lubbock? Every time I run it, I consider the first half the most tricky.  Running the Lubbock Invitational last week end helped boost my confidence for the course in hopes of a good finish at Region. I’m thankful that my head coach, Roxanne Farris, gets us out to Lubbock to preview the course.

  1. Do you have any prerace rituals?  Before every race I gather up my team and we say a prayer together.  We focus on the verse Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” This group huddle just takes away the nerves and lets us know that whatever happens, we’ll do our best.

  1. What are you doing right now in Training?  Right now in training I am keeping the intensity high and making sure I get a good amount of miles in every week.  While doing all of this I’m focusing on toughness and quality so that when the big races come I won’t back down.

Txrunning 7 Questions:

  1. What is your favorite word? Skadoosh (from Kung Fu Panda)
  1. What is your least favorite word? ooze
  1. What is your favorite thing about running?  I love how running is all self motivation and dedication.  It really helps you learn about yourself and how much you can endure.
  1. What is your least favorite thing about running? My least favorite thing would have to be that it is the punishment for other sports, so not as many people my age can understand how someone can like it so much.
  1. What sport other than yours would you like to attempt? I would say soccer, but I played that for 11 years so I would have to say racquetball.  It is so intense when you’re in a closed room trying to hit a tiny ball that you can barely see because it is moving so fast.
  1. What sports would you not like to attempt? I definitely don’t want to attempt cricket because just watching the pitcher throw it looks way to complicated.  Also there just isn’t enough action!
  1. If heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the pearly gates? I am hoping the Lord will say, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’ NKJV –Matthew 25:23
