Debbie Lewis Eastwood Inv. - Boy's 1,600m
El Paso Coronado distance runner Luis Pastor is one of the area's up and coming young distance running stars. The sophomore ran his first races on the track of the season this weekend at the Debbie Lewis Eastwood Inv.
His performances were impressive as he took home two wins against tough opponents, but also against the elements. He challenged several of El Paso's top runners and the windy conditions to win the 1,600m and the 3,200m events.
Pastor ran 4:31.14 and 9:38.01, which are both PRs for him. As a freshman, Pastor turned in average times for a high school freshman topping out with PRs of 18:56.62 (5K), 4:51.79 (1,600m), and 10:34.14 (3,200m).
However, this year his cross country season was an indication that Pastor was taking things to the next level. A 15:46.24 was his fastest race of the season and he also qualified for the Region 1-6A championships.
Now, he is showing that the track season will be a continuation of his evolution that he displayed in the fall. Watch Pastor and the other athletes compete this weekend.
