Bev Humphrey, 'It's Not Always About Having A Star Athlete'

Ashyiria Savage won the UIL 5A girls 300H to help lead Lancaster to it's 13th state title

When you're at a track meet and see the flashy uniforms and the multiple uniforms, it can be in part due to the Lancaster Tigers. Coach Beverly Humphrey has been a trend setter in many ways. The other ways have all been of substance. She will credit to her staff and the young ladies on her team, but let's be real, the credit is hers too.

Humphrey has led Lancaster to 13 UIL Track and Field State Championships including last week's UIL 5A share of the title with Fort Bend Marshall. She is quick to say, continued success is about development, "you have to be able to coach what you get," she says.

A real life living legend, Humphrey is one that coaches look up to in the sport and try to emulate. She is the Athletic Director in Lancaster ISD and has a stadium named after her, but she is not shy about making her proclamation about the lack of respect for track coaches."Track coaches don't get a lot of pub," Humphrey said.
