It's Texas high school track and field, so saying that there were some big time efforts turned in this weekend between two high profile indoor invitationals, probably wouldn't surprise anyone. However, there were two performances by one young man that deserve acknowledgement.
Christopher Brinkley (Fort Bend Marshall) ran three events this weekend at the Arkansas Invitational (60H, 400m, and 4x400 Relay). His two individual events both had preliminary rounds, so essentially, he ran five times on Saturday,
The University of Texas commit qualified for the finals in the 400m by running a US No. 3 mark of 48.35 in his preliminary round. Brinkley then followed that up in the 60H with his 8.24 prelim race.
Scrub to 39.57 for the 60m final and 48:57 for the 400m final
The impressive part of Brinkley's day came in the afternoon for the finals session of the meet.
Brinkley warmed up and stepped on the track for the 60H with the gun going off leading to the official event win in a 8:09 PR.
Less than seven minutes after crossing the finish line, he was back on the track setting up his blocks for the 400m final.
The starter would soon shoot the gun approximately nine minutes after Brinkley crossed the finish line. He would dart around the track holding off his section of the finals for his second win and sub 49 second 400m time of the day with his 48.72.
Brinkley later added his third win in his fifth race of the day in the Wings' 4x400 Relay victory.
