This past
Saturday
Southwest
High School
hosted their annual cross country invitational. The weather was dreary with about 100% humidity.Normally a pretty quick course, but with the ground being a little muddy,
times were a little slower than previous years.
In the girls' race, sophomore Christine Dalhousen (Boerne) emerged from the first mile loop
with a 50 meter lead.She held off
any contenders and easily won by nearly 100 meters, crossing the line in
11:58
.Teamwise, the Boerne girls showed
they are the
San Antonio
area team to beat, distancing themselves by 33 points from S.A. Reagan.
On the boys' side, it was a battle of the heavy hitters of
San Antonio
.Junior Jay Wilson (S.A. Churchill)
ran hard from the start and took control of the race.Senior Rio Reina (S.A. O'Connor) made a late surge, but could not quite
pass
Wilson
, as
Wilson
took the victory by half a second. The
Churchill team followed
Wilson
's performance with narrow win over favorites S.A. Reagan and Boerne, who
finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.
