It's easy to say that for one reason or another, this UIL State Cross Country Championships was like none other.
We had high school runner and we even unexpectedly had post-collegiate runners in these championships. However, from the beginning, the course modifications were sure to add a wrinkle in some sort of way and I think it's clear that the changes and additions made for a slower course than what was previously competed on for the last five years.
Without the state championships looking like a track meet, the new standard of how to compete on the course was evident.
