Each year, the goal of an individual athlete is to mature, improve, and get better. In this sport, we associate time with improvement. That means the faster you run means the better you're getting.
Every year that I do this article, there are always certain factors that prohibit the black and white evaluation.
The usual factors are weather and meet schedule changes. Mother Nature never produces the exact same conditions and with the changes in schedule of days and time slots of races the peak performance for the athletes could be better one year than the other.
This year, the course wasn't the same as last season. While it was still 5,000m, at the same park, and about 75% the same course, it did present variation as well as a different level of difficulty.
In my opinion, the 5,000m course was more difficult this year than when it was from 2016-2...
