Runners compete at the 2022 Viper Distance Festival
- - -
There is no question that distance running in the state of Texas is at an all-time high level and there are several contributing factors to that.
One of the main reasons is the focus on distance running continues beyond the cross country season into the track season that was once heavily dominated by sprints, relays, and field events.
The events that require the speed, power, and explosiveness that aren't as conducive to running the longer distances have traditionally been the focus during the track and field season.
However, with the distance focused meets, the thousands of distance runners have more to look forward to train for. That effort had been largely led by the Texas Distance Festival since 2013. Now, there are several distance events throughout the regular season.
