Watch Lauren Lewis Run New TX No. 1 Girls 400m At 54.13

It was only a matter of time before the weather would warm up in the DFW area. That meant it wouldn't be too long until Lauren Lewis made her mark on the 400m distance. The Prosper senior entered the weekend with a TX No. 8 56.86 performance at last weekend's Jaguar Invitational.

However, we all knew the reigning defending UIL 6A state champion would soon lower that season best performance. Today was the day. The University of Texas signee had the perfect formula for making her mark on the early outdoor track and field season. She had warmer weather, a home meet, and good competition.

In the 400m, at the Prosper Dan Christie RelaysEmma Alvord (Denton Guyer) was in the race as was Kyla Lewis (Prosper Rock Hill). Alvord finished 7th last year at the UIL 6A state meet in the 400m and Lewis entered the meet as the No. 4 ranked girl in the state for the outdoor season.

Kyla Lewis took the race out from the start to put the pressure on the field, but Lauren Lewis was in lane four and behind her, allowing a line of sight to keep track of her outside lane competitors. It was Kyla leading going into the final curve, but Lauren was in striking distance.

The two came off the turn together with Sophia Day (Denton Guyer) not far behind, but Lauren had more speed and strength left in her reserve and that allowed her to power to the finish line for the win. The win came with a new SB and top ranked time in the state when she crossed the finish line in 54.13. Kyla was second with a new SB of 55.31, Day was third in 56.37 and Alvord was able to finish strong for fourth place in 58.06.
