The freshman and sophomore classes usually does produce several of the top distance runners in their respective events. This year's rankings stay true to that trend, but what we're seeing is that the times aren't just fast, but there is depth of above the usual amount of fast times.
Freshmen boys is usually the opposite from freshmen and sophomore girls. Their development is usually linear to improvement in their physical strength. However, this year's freshmen along with the sophomore class are like the underclass girls where we are seeing deep fields of quality performances in the distance events.
