U20 Championship Finalists And Team USA Qualifiers

The USATF Outdoor Championships and U20 Championships were this past weekend and we now know who the World Championship teams are.

Below are the Texas high school/alumni individual qualifiers as well as the athletes who made the U20 finals.






Christine Mallard - (University of Southern California/Mansfield Legacy) - Mallard is the USA U20 National Champion. She won the 400m with a 50.74 run in the finals and qualified through the first round with a 52.20.

Madeleine Fey - (Midlothian) -  Fey made the USA U20 team by winning the discus throw competition. With a 168-7 toss on her final throw she was able to cap off the competition but she actually won it on her first throw with a165-9 toss ahead of the 164-1 second best throw by the second place finisher.




Camryn Dickson - (Texas A&M University/Clear Brook) - Dickson made the USA U20 team in the 100m. She qualified for the finals with a 11.44 time in the first round. A 11.30 run in a second place finish in the finals earned her spot on the team; finished third in the 200m finals.

Abby Elmore - (Gunter) - Elmore finished runner-up in the heptathlon when she concluded the two day slate of events with 5,271 total points. She was 281 points behind the winner, but only 2 points ahead of third place for the last qualifying spot on Team USA in the hep. Elmore scored big in the 100H with a time of 14.31 for 935 points and then scored 879 points in the high jump.

Lauren Lewis - (Prosper) - Lewis made the USA U20 team in the 400m with a second place finish in the finals. She ran 51.76 in the prelims and followed up with a 51.21 in the finals to secure a spot on the team.


Jack Mann - (Texas A&M University/Austin Lake Travis) - Mann captured the U20 title with a 17-4.50 clearance. He entered the event at 16-8.75 and cleared it and 17-0.75 on his first attempts at the heights. He was the only competitor to successfully clear 17-4.50 for the win.

Suzan Ogunleye - (University of Tennessee/Pflugerville Hendrickson) - Ogunleye finished second in the triple jump with a 41-10 in the finals. She used a 41-4.25 in the first three jumps to make the finals.

Garrett Kaalund - (Nebraska/San Antonio Antonian) - Kaalund made the USA U20 team in the 200m. He qualified for the finals when he went for a 20.75 preliminary run. A second place finish in the finals sealed the deal with a time of 20.65. Kaalund just completed his freshman season at Nebraska after a great career at Antonian.


GIRLS Finals Qualifiers

Laila Hackett - (Frisco Lebanon Trail) - Fifth in the 100m finals with a 11.50 after qualifying with a 11.61 in the prelims.

Haley Tate - (Georgia/Katy Seven Lakes) - Sixth in the 400m finals with a 53.59 after qualifying with a 53.46 in the prelims.

Cameron McConnell - (Oklahoma State University/Canyon Randall) - Seventh in the 1500m; ran 4:30.95.

Rylee Hampton - (Cypress Ridge) - Third place in the 100H with a time of 13.35 after qualifying with a 13.56 in the prelims.

Cali Bryant - (Houston Memorial) - Eighth in the high jump. Cleared opening height of 5-5.75 on second attempt.

Skylynn Townsend - (Prosper Rock Hill) - Fourth in the long jump with a 19-4.25 best jump in the competition. She qualified for the final with a 18-7 jump. Was also fourth in the triple jump with a 41-5 best jump.

Taylor Fingers - (Mansfield Timberview) - Eighth place in the long jump with a 19-0.50 best jump in the competition. She qualified for the finals with a 18-8.50 distance in her first three jumps. Was third in the triple jump with a 41-9.75 jump.

Myla Canty (University of California/Frisco) - Fifth in the triple jump with a 40-11.75 jump.

Carlie Weiser - (Giddings) - Sixth place in the shot put with at 47-1.50 toss. Was also eleventh in the discus with a119-9 toss.

Alencia Lentz - (Comal Canyon Lake) - Sixth place in the pole vault. Cleared 12-7.50 opening height on her first attempt and then cleared 13-1.50.


BOYS Finals Qualifiers

Miles Jones - (Mansfield Lake Ridge) -  fifth in the 100m finals with a 10.43 after qualifying with a 10.52 in the prelims.

Darius Rainey - (University of Southern California/Humble Summer Creek) - Sixth in the 800m finals with a 1:50.02 after qualifying with a 1:51.63 in the prelims.

Kepler Huntress - (Austin LASA) - Seventh in the 800m finals with a 1:56.17 after qualifying with a 1:52.23 prelim in the prelims.

Alexander Chukwukelu (North Forney) - Third in the 110H finals with a 13.45 after qualifying with a 13.60 in the prelims.

Kendrick Smallwood (University of Texas/Mesquite Poteet) - Seventh in the 110H finals with a 13.63 after qualifying with a 13.53 in the prelims.

Jarvis Anderson - (Taylor) - Eighth in the 110H finals with a 13.70 after qualifying with a 13.98 in the prelims.

Ashton Torns - (Austin Westlake) - Third in the long jump with a 24-8.50 best jump. He had a 24-0.25 in the first three jumps to advance to finals.

Aaron Davis - (University of Houston/Humble Summer Creek) - Fourth in the long jump with a 24-6.50 best jump. He had a 24-1.75 in the first three jumps to advance to the finals.

Chris Preddie - (Texas State University/Little River Academy) -  Fifth in the long jump with a 24-6.25 best jump. He had a 23-5.50 in the first three jumps to advance to the finals. Preddie was also fifth in the triple jump with a 49-1 best jump.
