This year's 2nd Annual Oklahoma High School Indoor Championship was one to remember. Once again held at The Mosier Indoor Facility at the University of Oklahoma, the 200m track and enclosed atmosphere made for some great performances and loud crowds.

FIELD EVENTS

Girls Shot Put:

Clinton High School's Kat Meacham took home the win in the Girls Shot Put. Her winning throw occurred on attempt 2, where she threw a distance of 41-6, a new personal best. Surely a great performance for her to finish out the indoor season. Rounding out the top three were Angelique Carter (Broken Arrow High School 37-9) and Carly Borgelt (Tulsa Union High School 37-5). An important note is that Tulsa Union placed two athletes in the top 8 scoring. A great showing for Union Girls Shot Put!

Boys Shot Put:

Leading the way in the Boys Shot Put was Collinsville High School senior, Jack Keith. On attempt number three, Keith had an absolutely lethal throw of 59-4 feet. The closest to Keith was Zane Zamanski from Southwest Covenant School, who threw 52-4. Rounding out the top 3 in this event was Montiel Crane from Clinton High School, with a personal best of 50-4. Collinsville also had another athlete score points in Colten Christian (46-11).

Girls High Jump:

Winning the Girls High Jump was Jacey Hammon from Plainview High School. Her jump of 5-4 barely scraped ahead of her teammate, Emory Glaven, who also jumped 5-4. A very impressive showing for Plainview's high jumpers. Also placing two athletes in the top 8 was Bixby High School. These two, London Poindexter (3rd: 5-2), and Kaitlin Mirc (6th: 4-10), both with great performances for Bixby.

Boys High Jump:

The Boys High Jump was a battle of three seniors. Leading the way with a 1st place finish was DaMontre Boykins from Northwest Classen High School. His jump of 6-3, bested Kellen Rutledge (2nd place: 6-2. Blanchard High School) and Bishop Gordon (3rd place: 6-0. Sapulpa High School).

Boys Long Jump:

Leading the charge in the Boys Long Jump was Sophomore Atticus Thompson from Clinton High School. Thompson jumped a distance of 22-5, which was a new personal best for him. Be on the lookout for Thompson to improve on this personal best this outdoor season. Outside of Thompson, Carvelle Jones from OK Flash Track Club jumped 21-6 for 2nd and Daniel Barnes from Broken Arrow High School went for 3rd with a jump of 21-5.50.

All three of these athletes set personal bests. Also, Jenks High School placed two athletes in the top 8 (Isabel Villalobos and Amara Hendricks).

Broken Arrow High School's Cooper Wakley won this event with a jump of 14-6. His jump was the leading mark by 6 inches, besting Parker Owens. In a tie for 2nd was Wesley Turner from Bartlesville High School, who like Owens, also jumped 14 feet. Also important to note, Broken Arrow had two athletes in the top 5 for this event. Senior Ashden Hopkins placed 4th with a leap of 13-6.

SPRINTS:

Girls 400m:

Alyssa Little was the winner in the Girls 400m dash. The sophomore out of Broken Arrow High School ran 58.17, beating out Rachel Cornell from Jenks High School. Cornell's time was enough for 2nd, and Daijah Gaines from Tulsa Union High School got 3rd with a 59.52. Tulsa Union also had Grace Blacet place 4th. Quite the showing for the Tulsa Union quarter mile runners.

Boys 400m:

Daijon Gaines from Tulsa Union High School led the way in this final, finishing through in 50.81 seconds with splits of 23.48 and 27.33. Behind Gaines was Xander Rhynes from Ada High School who ran a time of 51.09. After Rhynes was Jerek Watie also from Tulsa Union, running 51.14 to round out the top 3. Quite the showing for Tulsa Union's 400m runners.

Girls 200m:

Despite Santa Fe High School having two athletes in the final, Alexis Cavin still managed to win this event with a new indoor personal best. Cavin's time of 25.85 beat Alyssa Little from Broken Arrow High School by .20 seconds. In 3rd was Victoria Porter from Nathan Hale High School, running 26.06.

Boys 200m:

Broken Arrow High School was a force to be reckoned with in the Boys 200m. Cooper Wakley won the event with a time of 22.62, and Brody Pitt placed 5th with a 23.34. Placing 2nd was Devon Jordan from Tulsa Union High School with a time of 22.65. Lastly, placing 3rd was Jayden Hutson from Plainview High School

Boys 60m:

The Boys 60m was the Tulsa Union show as they placed two in the final. The Tulsa Union junior, Ashton Cunningham was the winner with a time of 6.95, and Boston Carrasco, also a Tulsa Union junior, placed 4th with a time of 7.11. Rounding out 2nd and 3rd were Ayden Christiansen from Jenks High School with a 7.00, and Grant Mohler from Bixby High School who ran 7.02.

DISTANCE:

Boys 1 Mile Run:

Leading the pack in the boys mile was Deer Creek's Brody Woodcock. Woodcock was the favorite leading into the race, and backed that up with a 4:24.16, winning by roughly eight seconds. Behind Woodcock, was Trae Baker from Tahlequah High School. Baker ran 4:32.01 for an impressive 2nd place finish. Close behind in 3rd, was Graham Mitchell from Deer Creek (4:33.06). My two biggest takeaways from this race are Deer Creek placing three athletes in the top 8 and Lincoln Christian's Ty Brooks. What is important to note about Brook's performance is that he scored points for his team but also ran 4:40.26. It is rare for a freshman to hit that mark, and it will surely be exciting to see what the outdoor season has in store for Brooks.

Girls 1 Mile Run:

Brooke Collins from Piedmont High School won this race with a 5:18.92. Coming in right behind her was Ava Cornelius from Tulsa Union High School with a 5:18.97. What a race to the finish from these two athletes! To add, Collins is a freshman and Cornelius is a sophomore, so both athletes have plenty of time left to keep improving. Rounding out the top 3 was Baylee Woodrich from Lincoln Christian with a 5:23.42. Along with these athletes, Deer Creek also placed two in the top 8 scoring (Maddie Cottier and Kenzie Ross).

Boys and Girls 1 Mile Run Elimination:

This race was a first for Oklahoma High School running, and it was certainly a fun one. For the boys race, the sophomore out of Piedmont High School, Nelin Kimery, won with an outstanding final lap. His time of 4:39.21 bested Eli Hopkins from Broken Arrow High School by a little over five seconds. Getting 3rd was Landry Finch, also from Piedmont.

In the girls race, Gentry Turner from Bartlesville High School dominated with a blistering 5:02.96. This time, was a personal best for Turner, and places her as the state lead going into the outdoor season. Following Turner was Kate Barber (Jenks High School) with a time of 5:17.32, and Aaliyah Joshua (Santa Fe High School) running 5:19.81. Also important to note, Santa Fe High School also had a 4th place finish in Natalie Duggan, who ran a time of 5:19.98.

Girls 800m:

In the Girls 800m Edmond Memorial showed out. Savannah Hull won in 2:20.55 and Jenna Doolen got 2nd in 2:25.93. Both Memorial athletes showed out and dominated this race. Coming in 3rd was Abigail Cothan from Bixby High School with a time of 2:26.37. Outside of Edmond Memorial's impressive showing, Piedmont High School also placed two in the top 6 (Claire Collins and Brooke Collins).

Boys 800m:

Trae Baker led the way in the Boys 800m. The senior out of Tahlequah was the only athlete that went sub 2 minutes in this race. His time of 1:57.84 won fairly handily. Daniel Davis out of Tulsa Union High School placed 2nd running 2:01.01. Lastly, Zachary Lewis (Edmond Memorial High School) got 3rd with a 2:02.04. Edmond Memorial also placed another athlete in the top 8, Karson Pillow (7th place).

Girls 3000m:

The girls 3000m was won in a pretty commanding performance from Bartlesville High School's Gentry Turner. The senior won with a personal best and sub 10 performance, running 9:56.05. Behind Turner were both Santa Fe High School athletes Natalie Duggan and Aaliyah Joshua. Duggan ran a time of 10:22.55 and Joshua 10:26.51. Quite the showing for Santa Fe's distance runners.

Boys 3000m:

Piedmont senior Dade Humes ran a time of 9:01.20 to win the Boys 3000m. Humes won by about nine seconds, beating 2nd place Camden Mccool from Edmond Memorial High School. To round out the top 3 was Carson Patten, who ran a time of 9:11.02. Look out for these athletes to make a storm come outdoor season.

Team Scores:

Girls team scores ended out with a victory for Jenks High School by scoring 48 points. Very close behind Jenks was Tulsa Union High School with 46 points. In 3rd was Bartlesville High School with 44 points. Something to think on is how all three of these schools are near the Tulsa area, which should mean for some great matchups come outdoor season.

The boys team scores went Broken Arrow High School with 73 points, Tulsa Union High School with 67 points, and Edmond Memorial High School with 60 points. All three of these programs have had many battles in recent years, with Tulsa Union taking the most recent major victory in the 2023 Track and Field 6A State Championship. This outdoor season is bound for great competition with these three schools being in the mix.

This concludes our 2024 Oklahoma High School Indoor Championship recap. Great job to all the athletes and teams that competed this week. Stay tuned for more content to be laid out throughout the next month as we gear up for the outdoor season.
