The Texas boys track and field sophomore class is extremely talented. In fact, several of them have already made national level names for themselves.
One that might be under your radar if you haven't been paying attention is Tate Taylor out of Northside ISD Harlan in San Antonio.
Taylor is now heading to the Region 4-6A regional meet as one of the favorites in both the 100m and 200m races. He won both events at yesterday's UIL Districts 27-28 & 29-30 Area Championships with his 10.34 and 21.09 (no wind indicator - NWI) performances.
The 10.34 in the 100m was a new personal record for Taylor to go along with his 20.78 (NWI) in the 200m from the UIL 6A - District 29.
Area Championship 100m
The 4x100 relay is another event he is participating in. Impressively, he brought his team back from a 10-meter deficit to the win at the area meet.
Taylor is clearly clicking at the right part of the year. Where he excels is coming out of the drive phase into the transition where he demonstrates excellent top end speed.
This isn't just the beginning for Taylor, although he didn't qualify for the state meet last year, he was third in the 100m finals at the Region 4-6A Championships with a 10.59 (w) performance.
Area Championship 4x100 relay
This indoor season Tate turned in two fifth place performances at the New Balance Nationals Indoor going for runs of 6.75 and 21.06. in Boston, MA.
Next up is the Region 4-6A meet and that is the only thing standing in the way of Taylor and the UIL State Track and Field Championships.
Take notice now, as this young star is taking off!
