This weekend, Klein Forest will make their final stand prior to the 2024 UIL 6A State meet in defending their team state title.

Last year, Coach Remon Smith and his Golden Eagles walked away from Mike A. Myers Stadium with the gold trophy after their valian running, jumping, and throwing efforts.

Prior to last year, Smith and Klein Forest last won the state title in 2019. Then, they were unable to defend their championship as the COVID-19 pandemic began and ended their defense.

In their first full season of reigning, it is now time to finally get to defending.

One of the major players on the track battle field will be 400m specialist and 2023 UIL 6A state meet 400m runner-up, Lawson Jacobs.

With consecutive sub 47-second races in the last two weeks, Jacobs will try to navigate a difficult Region 2-6A in the 400m as well as help lead three loaded relay teams back to Austin.

We caught up with Coach Smith and Jacobs to get their thoughts on regional  preparations and title defense.
