Edinburg North's San Juanita Leal cruised to her second straight UIL 6A Girls 3200m State title. She bided her time for the first three and a half laps letting Denton Braswell's Macy Wingard set the pace but then she made her move to ease into first place and never looked back.
Leal hit the 1600m mark at 5:04 and then ran an easy negative split 4:58 for her second mile and crossed the tape in a personal best time of 10:02.10. Wingard held down second place for the entire second mile and was not seriously challenged on her way to the silver medal in 10:17.71.
The race for third place was a good one with Pearland's Madison Peters making a move after the first mile to move from last to third place and she held the spot until the last lap when Adelynn Rodriguez of El Paso Eastwood ran a 74-second final lap to nip Peters at the line for third place. Rodriguez crossed in 10:23.76 and Peters was 10:23.88.
The win was the second straight for Rio Grande Valley senior and the result was a TX No. 4 all-time performance
