Skylynn Townsend Announced Gatorade Player of The Year

Skylynn Townsend has been busy over the last several weeks. She was just announced the Texas Track and Field Gatorade Player of the Year.

This past Saturday, the Prosper Rock Hill graduate was just in Eugene, Oregon to compete in the track and field US Olympic Trials. She finished in 10th place with a best jump of 42-9.75.

She moderated her school track season to end it and her UIL high school career off with a bang. Townsend added to her UIL 6A state meet gold medal count by adding the long jump and triple jump wins.

This outdoor season, Townsend was pretty much unbeatable. She didn't have a defeat in the triple jump until the Olympic Trails and her only loss in the long jump was at the U-20s competition where she finished third behind two collegians.

Prior to the Olympic Trials, Townsend won the triple jump competitions at the Nike Outdoor Nationals and the U-20 Championships. Her 44-2.50 jump secured her a spot on the U20 World Championship team.

Townsend was selected based on her exemplary character along with her academic achievement.

She will continue her track and field career in Athens, Georgia as she has signed to the University of Georgia.
