We are praying for the Burt family and the entire Jasper community today. The terrible news broke yesterday that a member of the track and field community passed away.

Reports from News4SanAntonio.com confirm 29-year oldAyden Rose Burt, a volleyball and track and field coach at Jasper was shot in the back and killed.

Burt, was in San Antonio, Texas to attend the Texas High School Coaches Association conference with members from the Jasper Independent School District.

Burt and other members of the district decided to attend The Smoke Skybar Tuesday night when the incident occurred; the bar faces Interstate 37 near downtown San Antonio.

Details are unclear, but the police believe the shot came from a passing vehicle on the interstate when it was fired and eventually striking Burt. She was sitting on the top patio of the bar with her back facing the interstate.

She was rushed to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Burt was not involved in any incident prior to the shooting and police do not have any suspects or motive.

The Burt family is a mainstay in the Jasper athletic community. Her father and grandfather both coached in JISD and she has been an employee at the district for over five years.
