Mayde Creek's Season Prospective And Life's Perspective

Katy Mayde Creek Girls made history last fall by getting the team to the Region 3-6A Championships and they are looking to make history again by being the first Girls' team in their 40 year school history to qualify for the UIL 6A State Championships.

Coach Shawn Siemers has made his mark by turning around the team at Katy Morton Ranch, leading Houston Stratford boys and girls and now he is doing a phenomenal job at Mayde Creek.

Standout twins, Claudia Klander and Jamie Klander, had a breakout season last year finishing 20th and 21st at the state meet, respectively, and followed it with outstanding track seasons. The team this year is made up of six girls and they all are focused on the team and their goal to make it to State!

Siemers found out this past June that he had a new challenge to overcome as his doctor told he had a rare cancer in his hip.

He had surgery on it in August and will soon begin radiation. Siemers has already seen an impact on the life; he has really focused now on what matters most to him in his wife, his family, and his runners.

He is very open on twitter and shares so many good thoughts on coaching and what is important. I would recommend following him @Siemers_XC_TF if you do not already. He has a passion for getting his runners to believe in themselves and to achieve big goals!

Mayde Creek Girls recently earned "Team Champions" at the Spring Branch Invitational led by Junior Jamie Klander who was undefeated this season before finishing fifth at McNeil's Gold race.

The rest of the six woman squad is made up of sophomore Ava Gonzales, freshman Sophia Ilagan, junior Claudia Klander (in her first race of the season after battling injury) and seniors Marianna Contreras and Denise Perez.

This team is worth a watch and I promise they are going to do some great and historic things this season! They will race at McNeil Gold this weekend and then Nike South before racing at District 19-6A.
